The Lebanese cuisine is an ancient one, and can be traced back thousands of years to eras of Roman and Phoenician rule – but it hasn’t stopped evolving. Delicious seasonal vegetables, herbs, spices and oils make Lebanese food some of the healthiest in the world.
My name is Michel, and Lebanese food is my passion. Food by Michel offers catering for your home or office, and cooking workshops where I’ll teach you to make your favorite Lebanese dishes (and some of mine!). We also host several market-stalls every month, with some of the best falafel you’ve ever tried.
Welcome, and thank you for your visit!
I’ve been cooking professionally for 12 years, and as a hobby for a lot longer. Lebanon is known for many things, but anyone who has visited would agree that Lebanese cuisine is chief among them. I’ve run catering companies and headed restaurant kitchens, and now I focus on my own art, and hope to bring you something you’ll love.
I specialize in traditional mezza, but also have an inventive streak. Ever heard of mama ghannouj? Drop me a note if you’d like to try some.
Lebanese food is delicious, but takes a lot of time to make. A good table should cover a wide variety of mezza and dips, but with each dish taking between half an hour to two hours, pulling this off isn’t an easy feat.
I love catering. My company specializes in catering for wedding and small events, but I also love helping you host dinners at your home, or inviting you and a group of friends over to mine for a meal. Offering vary based on your needs and expected number of guests, but our service includes mezza, mains and desserts. Prices vary, but you can expect to pay between €15 and €45 per person depending on your requirements.
If you look below you’ll find some of my most requested items along with pricing information.
But if you’d like to learn more, just give me a call on 06 1445 9943 or fill out the contact form. I’d love to help you customize the package for your specific event.
Mezze (starters) and main courses
Michel’s classes are fantastic!
The best tabbouleh we’ve ever had!
Markets are some of my favorite places, and one of our main activities. We have a permanent stand in three of Amsterdam’s busiest markets, and I’d love to give you a sample of our famous falafel if yoy stop by and say hello.
Biologische markt van Eesterenlaan
Head to the Biologische markt van Eesterenlaan every Wednesday to catch us with us. There’s a wide selection of fresh, seasonal mezza and dips waiting for you when you get here.
Biologische markt Minerva plein
We’re here every Friday, offering hummus, labneh, baba ghannouj and a bunch of other Lebanese favorites. Everything you see is fresh and seasonal, and as authentic as it gets.
On the first Sunday of every month, you’ll find us at the Sunday Market, one of the most popular markets in Amsterdam. We’ll be there offering wraps (including our famous falafel) and plates of mixed mezza. See you there!
Ever wanted to try your hand at making Lebanese food? Yes it’s a complicated cuisine, but it shouldn’t be intimidating. And it’s incredibly fun to learn, cook, and of course eat!
My workshops can be help in my kitchen or yours, and will include starters, a main course, mezza and desserts. I also bring along some of the best wine Lebanon has to offer. Workshops last between 4 to 5 hours, and are designed for groups of 6 to 13 people. Prices vary but average at €68 per person, and include everything you need. Some people like to bring their own aprons to feel more at home, so feel free to do the same.
